On Saturdays Home Depot and Lowe's do build it crafts for kids. We have been meaning to take the boys but finally got around to it. They made periscopes, and they really work. They each received an apron and certificate along with a patch of each project they complete to attach to the aprons. It was a lot of fun and a great way for the boys to learn how to properly use the tools that they always want to use with Dad.
